Story: Learning Circle

Most Significant Story

Story:1

We did not plant any vegetables in our village. We did not have any interest on this because we do not have own land. Space around our home left empty. Now, almost all of us become aware. Now, how much space we have we are using that to plant vegetables there. We needed to buy everything for our daily meal.

Vegetable Gardening is most important for us. Because,

  • We can eat the vegetable of our own whenever we wish.
  • We are able to fulfill our nutrition demands.
  • We can save from daily shopping.
  • We can sell our extra vegetables when we need to. We can save small amount from here.
  • We are encouraged to grow more vegetables.
  • The spaces that left empty are now using for vegetable gardening.
  • It feels good to eat vegetables from own garden.

Story:2

My name is Omela Hembrom. I am a member of ‘Learning Circle’ group. I have got the idea from the lesson ‘Rearing Poultry’ from the book ‘Amrao Pari’ after joining in this group. I have purchased 8 ducklings per 20.00tk (BDT) each. Now, all of them are grown up. One of those has started laying egg. We can eat the eggs. We could sell them also. If I sell one the duck I will get 200.00tk (BDT) each. On the other hand we could get meat from these. Its very much profitable. Many of my neighbors bought ducklings after seen mine.  I knew it before but, I ignored. I have plan to rear more in future. In addition, I plant Indian spinach beside my house after reading the ‘Vegetable Gardening’. We got the opportunity to learn so many things after joining in the ‘Learning Circle’ group.

This story has selected as the Most Important. Because-

  • We are getting egg and meat by rearing poultry. It fulfills our nutrition needs;
  • We could get financial support  by selling the egg and be meat; it will help  us to be financially stable;
  • These will help us in any emergency. If any guests come suddenly, we could manage by this poultry meat or eggs;
  • If we can’t manage our savings installments we could manage by selling one of these poultry;
  • Its need not to give much money or energy;
  • Its need not much space also.

Story:3

My name is Bharoti Hajong. I live in Gandhigaon. I am a member of Learning Circle. We used open defecation in our family before being the member of the learning circle group. Therefore, malodor swells up all around our house. Flies and mosquitoes spread germs. I have learned about the hygienic latrine after joining in the learning circle. I shared with my family members. They have understood the fact. Then, we make hygienic latrine at our home. All the family members are using the latrine. Now, we have stopped the open defecation. It is very much embarrassing to use open defecation. On the other hand it is very awkward to go for defecation at night and in the day time. It is also very embarrassing when the guests come to visit home. Now, we feel uncomfortable to see the unhygienic latrine at others house. We are happy those malodors are not swelling up like before.

This story has selected as the MSC story. Because-

  • It is very important for all;
  • It keeps the environment clean and pollution free;
  • It keeps us save from many diseases;
  • It helps maintain the human civility.

Story:4
My name is Adori Ekka. I am an inhabitant of a village named Balapara. I have learned many things from the learning circle which is presently running in our village and also realize that these themes are essential for daily life. Among them, one of the most import themes was unity. It is very simple; to live together and behave together is unity. To cooperate in work together is very easy, to learn something together and implement in day to day life. It helps us grow in our confidence and we can solve any big problems in a very short time.

A few days ago, an incident happened in our village. Women of the village are members of micro credit groups lead by CCDB (NGO). One of the members took a loan from their group a long time ago but she had not repaid the loan. It was hampering their loan disbursement procedure. Even though the leader of the group went to the member’s house and requested her to refund the loan, there was no result. Moreover, that member blamed the bearer of the group. Finally, a meeting was called by the leader of the group and all the members decided that they would go to the defaulting member’s house and convince her to continue her installments. They acted according to their decision and the member also realized her fault herself, thus she started paying installments again. Now there is noone defaulting at all and everything is going well.

From this real incident we can learn “any hard work can be done easily by unity”.

Story:5

My name is Rupali Kispatta. I live in a village named Tajnagar. I learned many things from the learning circles which are organized by SIL Bangladesh. Although we are already aware of many of the themes, the learning circles gives us new information and light every time. I try to rear local poultry in my house and every year many of them die due to unexpected diseases. I was not aware of the causes of the diseases. From the learning circle, I learnt how to rear poultry and how to prevent diseases. I trid to implement preventive measures this year and most of my ducks and chickens have not been attacked by any diseases. All of them are healthy and alive. I have 10 ducks with 9 baby ducks and 12 chickens also. A few of them are hatching eggs.

Why this theme is very important to me:

  • Besides eating poultry, I can sell them also and it increases my family income.
  • Local chicken is delicious and maintains the nutrition of my family.
  • I can manage a support my children’s school expenses by selling poultry.
  • Sometimes I can even manage money for repaying a loan installment.
